Crotons are vibrant, tropical plants that require bright, indirect light (4-6+ hours) and high humidity to maintain their colorful foliage. Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy, watering when the top inch dries, and maintain temperatures between 60-85 degrees. They are sensitive to drafts and dislike being moved.

Key Care Requirements:
  • Light: Provide bright, indirect light or full sun (if acclimated) to ensure maximum color. Inadequate light causes leaves to turn green.
  • Watering: Water regularly, allowing the top 1-2 inches of soil to dry out. They are dramatic and will drop leaves if allowed to dry out completely or if overwatered.
  • Humidity & Temperature: Thrives in 40-80% humidity. Mist leaves regularly, use a humidifier, or place on a pebble tray. Keep away from cold drafts and air conditioning.
  • Soil & Fertilizer: Use well-draining, potting soil. Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring/summer).
  • Maintenance: Wipe leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust. Prune in spring to manage shape.
  • Troubleshooting: Leaf drop is a common sign of cold temperatures, low humidity, or moving the plant too often.
