Dracaena marginata 'Colorama' (Dragon Tree) thrives in bright, indirect light, which keeps its pink-striped foliage vibrant, and requires well-draining, succulent-style potting mix. Allow the top 2–4 inches of soil to dry between waterings, as they are drought-tolerant but susceptible to root rot. They prefer temperatures of 65°F–80°F and moderate humidity.

Key Care Guidelines:
  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light levels, though this will slow growth and fade colors. Avoid direct sun, which can burn the leaves.
  • Water: Water sparingly. Let the top 1–2 inches (or up to 50%) of soil dry out between waterings.
  • Humidity/Temperature: Thrives in average home humidity, but prefers 40-50%. Prefers temperatures between 65°F and 80°F (18°C–27°C) and should not be placed in temperatures below 55°F.
  • Fertilizer: Feed monthly during the spring and summer with a balanced, liquid fertilizer diluted to half-strength.
  • Maintenance: Clean leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust. Trim any browning tips (a common, minor issue) or, if the plant gets too tall, you can prune the stem, which will encourage new, branching growth.
  • Toxicity: Toxic to cats and dogs.
Common Issues:
  • Yellow/Brown Leaves: Often a sign of overwatering or, conversely, too little water.
  • Dropping Leaves: Can occur if the plant is under-watered for an extended period.
  • Slow Growth: Usually indicates the plant is in a space with too little light
